Final Project COMPLETE!

It took almost 10 hours in the studio to complete but I can finally say it is done. The construction of the shoe rack portion (base) of the project was completed with relative ease.  The only problem encountered was with the divider, which when inserted caused the side panels to flare.  But it was nothing a little extra glue and a couple of clamps couldn't fix.  The real difficulty in this project came with the assembly of the drawer, in particular the glides.  Determining the correct measurements to allow for a smooth sliding drawer was a challenge.  Although the glides perfectly fit into the dados on the side panels, the glides had to be installed onto the drawer and still allow for a smooth transition.  Many problems were encounter at this step which required the installation of the glides multiple times and finally I had to resort to sanding the drawer glides and base to compensate for the inability to place the glides in exactly the perfect spot.  After a great amount of sanding I was able to slide the drawer in perfectly.  This project was very helpful in introducing me to wide array of building techniques from edge banding to cutting dados to using pocket screws.  Even though at times it was frustrating to get all the pieces to come together, I thoroughly enjoyed the entire process all the way from the idea stages to the completion of the finished product. Below is a picture of the finished product.  Hopefully I will be able to put it to good use!
